Kirsch, rose petal, pomegranate, exotic spices and mint are woven together in a fabric of notable class in the 2011 Tignanello. An exotic wine that captures the essence of the year, the 2011 is endowed with magnificent complexity, nuance and class. The silky, polished finish makes the 2011 incredibly appealing today, but the wines from this site have always aged very well. The 2011 is going to need time to shed some of its baby fat, but it will always remain extroverted and racy to the core. I can't wait to see how the 2011 ages.
The 2011 Tignanello demonstrates a very ripe and fruit-forward personality with bursting cherry and blackberry folded within sweet spice, moist tobacco and honey-almond paste. Its texture is heavy and dense with sticky spots of sweetness (the alcohol is recorded at 14.5%). With such a fruit-heavy personality, the wine doesn't reach the soaring heights or brilliant complexity we see in cooler vintages. It should veer toward a greater sense of focus and tightness with more bottle age. Drink 2015-2027
Summer heat in 2011, resulting from drying winds that caused spots of heat stress across the Italian peninsula, shows its mark in the grand wines of Italy's flagship estate. I was especially interested to see how Tignanello and Solaia would perform this year. No doubt, these are standout wines, but there's no denying the ripe tones packed deep within the flesh of these two vino italiano protagonists. They do not reach the grand heights of recent years.
Deep ruby in colour, this Tignanello is immediately aromatic in the glass. Layers of violets, blueberries, plums and cherries leap out of the glass. The palate is ripe and round with more of the sweet blueberry and cherry fruit complimented by ripe, round tannins. There is real purity and vibrancy to the fruit on this wine that is given complexity by toast, clove, nutmeg and vanilla. Despite its youthfulness this wine approachable now, with no hard edges and a sumptuous long finish.
Slick, internationally styled soft red fruit with a hint of oak, and an appetising, tangy finish. Drink 2014 - 2020 (WS)
