Always the sweetest of the set Macushla opens with darker berry notes and a slight hint of cherry cola. The palate is polished and succulent, with no hard edges. This is seductive Pinot, but there is more brightness and a fresher acidity than in 2023. Well balanced but open knit, you can drink this tonight. Supple, sweet and polished on the finish.
Gibbston Valley.
Racy, lively. Really savoury and sappy with a dry finish. Some real delicacy here! (JR) 2025 - 2034
Ripe aromas of black raspberry, violets and black cherry with a light dusting of cinnamon and clove lead to a plush and generous palate with velvet tannins. The fruit is ripe and very concentrated, hinting at savoury notes with dried plum and spice as the submerged tannins firm up along the back-palate. Powerful and compact with innate depth, this intense wine has excellent length and will reward cellaring for many years.
The “Real Review” tasting note here is from an extensive blind tasting of all Central Otago Pinot Noirs from the 2024 vintage. Wild Irishman had 4 wines in the Top Ten of all wines tasted and - apart from Felton Road Block 3 and Block 5 – the best 3 wines of the entire tasting.
