Tasted at the château, the 2007 Clos l'Eglise was a pleasant surprise with quite vigorous black cherry and bergamot scents, just a hint of black tea, certainly showing good intensity after ten years. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grained tannin, fine backbone, a pinch of cracked black pepper on the entry with a solid, slightly austere but focused finish that is resolutely classic in style. I appreciate the "Pomerol-ness" of this Clos l'Eglise. Drink now and over the next 6-8 years. Tasted March 2017.

Sweet and round and gentle with real fruit life there. Hint of coffee. Lively. Drink 2011-17
Good rich red-ruby color. Brooding aromas of black cherry, black raspberry, mocha, menthol, licorice and smoky, nutty oak. Plush, large-scaled and sweet, with thick, mouthcoating flavors of black cherry, dark berries and flowers. Full but not heavy, and impressively deep for the year. Finishes broad and pliant, with fine, chocolatey tannins and lovely persistence. (A second sample was a bit reduced on the nose and more saline in the mouth but featured similar pliancy, sweetness and length.) A beauty!
Rich and elegant with the floral (lilac), Burgundian nuance often associated with Le Pin. Lovely depth of fruit on the palate, tannins fine but firm. Definition and persistence on the finish. Drink 2013-2022. 4 stars.
This is much lighter on the nose for Clos l’Eglise but in thus doing so retains good definition and freshness, with touches of roasted herbs, thyme and some attractive boysenberry fruit evolving in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with very fine tannins, good purity of fruit and very good poise. Black cherries, earthy, tar and a touch of graphite towards the finish. This is a great success for Clos l’Eglise. In the words of Borat: I like but you can do the accent yourself. Tasted April 2008.
