Chapelle Chambertin, Louis Jadot 2020

Tasting Notes

One of the more reserved wines in the range on the day of my visit was the 2020 Chapelle-Chambertin Grand Cru (Domaine Louis Jadot), a full-bodied, concentrated and vibrant wine evocative of red berries, pomegranate, sweet spices and rose petals. Deep and tightly wound, it will reward further élevage and bottle age, as the raw materials are of obviously high quality.

A fresh clean purple. I am not finding much bouquet but there is quite a wealth of fresh red fruit on the palate with a good acid balance. I think I am slightly missing the nobility, and the tannins slightly dry the finish. Drink from 2028-2036. Tasted: September 2024.

Mid ruby in colour. A blend of glossy red and black fruit dominates the nose, together with sweet oak spice. The palate is tight for now, unfurling with layers of wild hedgerow fruit. These is an almost saline quality to the spice and toast here, building in tandem with slick, ripe tannins. Long and harmonious, there is excellent potential in this wine.

Dense purple, some energy, not quite come together yet. This has broad shoulders, the structure I expect of Jadot Chapelle-Chambertin, from ancient vines still in great health. Excellent acidity, this keeps on kicking on with wonderful nuances and a very long finish. Tasted: November 2021
