Tasting Notes

This fruity, soft, somewhat commercial, mid-weight St.-Julien offers sweet black cherry and currant fruit intermixed with subtle herb, spice box, and smoke characteristics. While not particularly concentrated, it is a round, aromatic, soft, sensual 2006 to enjoy over the next 10-13 years.

Tasted at the UGC. Very little on the nose which displays some underlying greenness. Blackberry, wild hedgerow, cut grass and a touch of toffee. The palate is medium-bodied with furry tannins, lacking a little harmony and focus with supple, red-berried finish. Well integrate new oak, I think this will improve a point or two in barrel. Tasted April 2007.

Very perfumed, with violet and currant character. Full-bodied, with chewy tannins and a long finish. Juicy young wine. Impressive.

James Suckling, WineSpectator.com, March 2007

Dark crimson. Tobacco leaf notes on the nose - rather drying tannins on the finish. A little bit pinched. Far from opulent!

Medium ruby-red. Wild aromas of cassis, minerals, leather and meat. Supple and sweet but with modest grip and cut to the redcurrant and leather flavors. The tannins build, leaving the finish a bit tough.

The 2006 Talbot is a more seductive, possibly sexier wine than the 2005, which is seemingly more reserved in that top-notch vintage. The 2006 exhibits sweet, olive-tinged black cherry and currant fruit, soft tannin, a heady attack, good freshness and acidity, and a lush, fleshy finish. It will drink beautifully in 4-6 years, and last for two decades.
