The 2023 Mâcon-Vergisson La Roche, from vines on the top of the "roche" of Vergisson, unwinds in the glass with notes of pear and peach mingled with white flowers, buttery pastry and toasted nuts. Medium to full-bodied, satiny and layered, it's deep and fleshy, concluding with a long, penetrating finish. 2024 - 2034
A wine that needs no introduction to lovers of Verget White Burgundy. This is made from a part of the "Sur La Roche" vineyard that faces north, so it is only entitled to the Macon appellation, rather than the section facing south which is classed as Pouilly Fuissé Premier Cru. As usual, this vintage has a stony, mineral personality in 2023 and will benefit from a few more months in bottle. Chalky and driven by citrus fruit, this is a wine of impressive finesse, with vibrant acidity and cool green and yellow fruits. Precise and long on the finish, this is a quintessential Vergisson La Roche from an ever-reliable bottling chez Verget.
