The 2020 Pommard Clos des Arvelets 1er Cru comes from steep vineyard that has to be worked with a "chenillard"(a very small tractor). It has a more strident, generous bouquet compared to the preceding Clos Micault with quite intense black cherries, bilberry and pressed iris petal aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with a very harmonious, slightly granular opening, fine depth, good acidity with a sapid finish. Excellent.
This vineyard, replanted in 1956, has to be done by hand or chenillard caterpillar tractor. Rich full purple, the bouquet has more depth here, more Pommard classicism, not a simple easy fruit. Clearly the flavours in the mouth are very ripe but the structure, more tannin than acid, holds it all together very well.
