Clos de Vougeot, Domaine Y. Clerget 2019

Tasting Notes

From the Grand Maupertuis sector, though as yet not specified on the label. 50% whole bunch and two new barrels in four. The destemmed half was on top in the vat, and only that was punched down. So after pressing the remaining whole bunches gave more sugar, which finished in barrel. Similar deep purple and little bouquet. Perhaps an additional suavity to the silky dark fruit, not yet knit with the acidity. Very intense, interested to see how this will turn out.

Very intense and serious. Much less sweet than his Côte de Beaune wines. Much juicier and more flirtatious than many Clos de Vougeots. Wine for pleasure, which might be dismissed as unserious in a blind line-up of Clos de Vougeots. Very long. Perhaps not the most typical Clos de Vougeot but very well made. Grainy finish. Drinking window: 2027-2042.
