Chapelle Chambertin, Domaine Rossignol-Trapet 2017

Tasting Notes

With slightly more acidity than the Chambertin yet beautiful concentration and precision, the 2017 Chapelle-Chambertin Grand Cru has more juicy, unevolved notes of ripe black cherries, scorched earth, violets, spice, and forest floor. Medium to full-bodied, with a rich, concentrated style on the palate, it has a crunchy, vibrant feel in its fruit, firm yet ripe tannins, and a great finish. This beautiful, promising 2017 will benefit from 4-5 years of bottle age and drink well for 15+.

The 2017 Chapelle-Chambertin Grand Cru offers dark berry fruit, cola and allspice on the nose; a faint hint of licorice emerges with time. The palate is quite chewy on the entry, grippy and firm, showing quite a lot of stem addition that makes it initially tricky to assess, although it coheres nicely in the glass. Tough going at the moment, but it will deliver with several years in bottle. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2017 tasting.
