The 2008 Les Chétillons seems to slowly be coming out of a period during which is has not been very expressive at all. In the last few months however, the 2008 is showing like it did about two years ago, when it positively sizzled with vintage 2008 cut and tension. Citrus, floral and mineral-drenched notes abound in this captivating Champagne endowed with real Mesnil character.
Disgorged very recently in November 2015 with a dosage of 4.7 grams, and available from June onwards, Pierre Péter's great 2008 Les Chétillons Cuvée Spéciale Blanc de Blancs Brut is the Champagne that no Champagne lover should miss. This has fresh and intense Chardonnay notes with almond flavors and the chalky powder of Le Mesnil; those flavors lead to a rich, pure, elegant, fresh and highly complex palate. Still very young and with lots of lemon flavors, the 2008 is still far away from being on its peak, but its purity and youthful energy is amazing. It costs significantly more than the 2009, but you should take this rather as a protective charge. If it cost just $80, you would probably drink it too early. So don't waste money, but invest in a great, great terroir Champagne. This is the most remarkable Chétillon I have tasted so far.
