Meursault Charmes, Domaine des Comtes Lafon 2012

**Note: a blend of fruit coming from 35+ and 75+ year old vines all in Charmes Dessus, which is the best part directly below Perrières and abutting Combettes**
Reduction again flattens the fruit. The palate impression of the medium-bodied flavors is more concentrated if a bit less fine compared to that of the Genevrières. There is good minerality to the impressively intense medium-bodied flavors that continues onto the notably dry but not really austere finish that delivers outstanding length and balance. This excellent effort will need the better part of a decade to arrive at its peak.

Tasted blind at the Burgundy 2012 tasting in Beaune. The 2012 Meursault 1er Cru Charmes from Dominique Lafon has a beautiful nose with lemon thyme, lime flower, mineral scents that are just so neatly poised and delineated. The palate has exquisite balance, perfectly judged acidity, wonderful poise and sustain in the mouth. This is exactly what you would seek from a top flight Meursault Charmes that will repay long-term cellaring. Dominique just nailed this one.

In magnum. A pale and fresh lemon yellow. The bouquet offers a wealth of fruit, without much detail available yet. A very fine weight to this and joie de vivre, still more to open out later on. Only a couple of years away from maturity but a little extra time will pay dividends. Tasted: June 2022
