Tasted single blind at FINE magazine's vertical in Dusseldorf. This has a smooth rounded bouquet with mulberry, dark cherry and a touch of liquorice. Good definition with a lot of ripe dark cherry, quite earthy fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with rounded tannins, very succulent, perhaps a nod to the New World with a slight chocolaty finish. More forward ambitious, perhaps ravishing compared to other vintages, but this is one that still needs time. Tasted February 2011.
A special parcel of Merlot on sandy soil, made at Eglise Clinet. Rude and round and pretty and fine. Very burgundian. Plummy fresh and round. Gentle, easy, approachable. A little diffuse but very charming. Could be a good buy for relatively early drinking. Drink 2009-15
Year in, year out from the same two parcels at L'Eglise-Clinet. Lacks the power of the grand vin but appealing. Fine, red fruit aromas. Palate round, fragrant with a fine tannic tram. Drink 2010-2018.
