Gentle wood sets off overtly spicy and earth aromas that blend notes of both red and dark pinot fruit. Here too the barely middle weight flavors possess a really lovely texture thanks to the lilting mouthfeel of the punch, balanced and sneaky long finish. As it always is, this is a Meursault rouge of finesse and refinement though it will need to add depth to merit the upper end of my predicted range. Note: from a small .53 ha monopole
Planted in 1949 in pinot fin, paler but brighter colour and some beautiful little alpine strawberries here. Not a blockbuster but elegance and detail, while oak adds some sweetness to the full bodied crushed strawberries at the finish. Delicacy and charm. Pleasing peppery touch to the finish. Not yet bottled. Tasted Apr 2021.
