The NV Brut Cuvée de Réserve Grand Cru (base 2022) is a very serious wine. Deep, layered and super-expressive, the 2022-base edition is terrific. It offers notable breadth throughout. Tangerine peel, candied ginger, spice and baked apple tart are some of the many notes that are front and center. I admire the wine's sheer presence. This release is a bit exuberant but also very easy to like. The Cuvée de Réserve is 50% 2022 and 50% the previous year's blend. Dosage is 5.7 grams per liter. Disgorged: July 2024. (Drink between 2025-2031)
Bright in the glass and equally so in aroma, there are layers of pure, sappy stone and citrus fruits, a light dusting of fresh pastry and a hint of lemon drop on the nose. The palate leads with that same confit lemon fruit, glossy and precise in its mousse that feels crunchy and vibrant rather than creamy. There is a hint of pastry dough but that slick fruit sits front and centre, lingering on the finish. A fine-boned, pure and elegant style.
