The 2011 Chateau Lafaurie-Peyraguey has a very primal nose with dried pineapple, beeswax, a touch of sea spray and wet stone. The palate is medium-bodied with a harmonious, viscous entry and very well-judged acidity that lends tension and poise. There is something more effortless about this 2011 compared to recent vintages, with a tang of marmalade popping up on the finish that is very elegant. Excellent.
A dense, sweet wine with dried pineapple, papaya and honey. Full body, very sweet and fresh. Spicy, botrytis character. Almost waxy undertone. Solid wine. Try in 2017.
In the 1855 classification this First Growth was ranked in third place behind Yquem and La Tour Blanche. Plenty of opulent candied peaches and cream in this luscious Sauternes.
The nose is attractively fragrant but quite light. There is sweet fruit on the mid palate but a lack of real richness the underlying freshness tending to dominate. It has charm but lacks substance.
Polished, intense with lifted flavours of marmalade and honeysuckle. Very focused, pure and elegant with enticing aromatics. Love the refreshing acidity and finesse in this wine.
The impressive Lafaurie Peyraguey has a light but well-defined, almond-scented nose with a satisfactory level of botrytis. With aeration, hints of pineapple begin to emerge with aromas of vanilla and white peach. The palate is medium-bodied with a very composed, very pure entry and a keen thread of acidity. It shows admirable weight and botrytization, with a gorgeous spicy finish that has impressive persistency. Drink 2015-2035.
A dense and rich Sauternes with nutmeg, dried mushroom, sweet apples and honey. Full, very sweet and long. Very concentrated.
