Eric Germain crafts a terrific example of this vineyard from a prime source located in Le Montrachet itself, and the 2021 Montrachet Grand Cru is no exception. Unfurling in the glass with aromas of pear, musk melon, ripe citrus, lemon curd, crushed mint, white flowers and freshly baked bread, it's full-bodied, broad and satiny, with a rich and seamless mid-palate animated by tangy acids, concluding with a saline finish.
Two barrels from the Puligny side. Full yellow, richer bacon fat style. Some minerals behind, quite exotic. So many different flavours though, peach, mango, yellow plum, lime, with a racy finish. More than 14% alcohol even in 2021. Could have been picked earlier, or is this the right approach for the majesty of Montrachet? A fabulous aftertaste in any case. Drink from 2030-2040.
