A new cuvée for Verget, sourced from a good grower in the northern Mâconnais, the 2023 Mâcon-La-Roche-Vineuse Les Bois Joyaux offers up aromas of pear, green apple, white flowers, mint and toasted nuts, followed by a medium to full-bodied, satiny and saline palate that's pure and racy, concluding with a chalky finish. 2024 - 2033
This is a new addition to the Verget range of wines and it impressed us greatly when we tasted it from barrel, so we bought all that we could have. Made from old vines planted on limestone soil, there is plenty of minerailty but the southern exposure brings significant richness to the wine. Matured all in oak barrels with 25% new. Bright and pale in colour, this has an enticing nose that layers cool, almost stoney fruit with serious, structured wood spice. The palate has a satin-like texture with bold, intense fruit. Tangy in acids and fleshy in ripeness, there is real harmony to this impressive and moreish wine. A good hit of savoury wood spice gives a feeling of completeness to this very impressive new wine. A joy to drink now, it will give real drinking pleasure over the coming five years.
