From a parcel located at the windier southern end of this large premier cru, the 2019 Volnay 1er Cru Clos des Chênes was showing especially well, wafting from the glass with aromas of raspberries, rose petals, woodsmoke, spices and forest floor. Medium to full-bodied, layered and multidimensional, it's seamless and concentrated, with lively acids and ripe, powdery tannins.
