The 2016 Prieuré-Lichine is all class. Floral, silky and nuanced to the core, the 2016 is a wine of pure and total seduction. Freshly cut flowers, vibrant red fruit and creamy tannins all add to the wine's undeniable allure. In 2016, Prieuré-Lichine is all class, not to mention one of the sleepers of the vintage. Don't miss it! Tasted two times. Drink 2022-2041.
This beautiful Margaux might not exceed the 2015 but it is undeniably doing a good job of keeping up. It combines elegance and richness, with extremely well extracted deep fruits and plenty of layers of finesse in the form of charcoal, slate, grilled almonds and cloves. An excellent Prieuré with good ageing potential.
Drinking Window 2027 - 2050
The 2016 Prieuré-Lichine has a compact bouquet of blackberry, raspberry, allspice and light pressed iris scents that are nicely defined. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, offering fine balance, moderate depth and gentle grip toward the finish, which attenuates when you want it to spread out. Give it some time in bottle. A very suave, polished Margaux that delivers iodine and dark-stone aromas and a wealth of ripe, plush dark fruit that follows through to the palate in attractive, fleshy and juicy mode. Try from 2022.
Tasted blind. Racy, pacy, chalky finish. Refreshing. Dry and drying on the end. Short of fruit.
Drink 2024 – 2035
Tasted blind at the 2016 Southwold tasting. Deep ruby purple colour. Rich, ripe and bold on the nose with smoky cassis. The palate is muscular and equally smoky, building a sinewy frame of blue and black fruit. There is some lift and elengance here, bringing good balance. Long in black fruit on the finish.
The medium ruby-colored 2016 Château Prieuré-Lichine is a touch lean and firm, yet has impressive notes of spring flowers, damp underbrush, and loads of minerality. Possessing both red and black fruit, present tannins, and good balance, it’s a solid, enjoyable effort that would be even better with a touch more flesh.
The nose has fragrance fresh black fruits but the palate has sweet fruit ripe cherry, cassis and plum the mid sweetness balanced by the underlying freshness. The fruit at the back is concentrated rich fruits the finish has more of a spicy freshness. 2024-36
The 2016 Prieuré-Lichine has an open bouquet of black fruit infused with violet petals and iris. The palate is sweet on the entry, offering blackberry, raspberry, cedar and tobacco notes, and quite harmonious in the mouth. Probably one of the most approachable Margaux wines this vintage. Fine. Drink 2020-2036.
The 2016 Prieure-Lichine took a little encouragement from the glass, eventually revealing blackberry, blueberry and violet aromas, just a touch of earthiness in the background. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannin cloaked in plenty of succulent black fruit tinged with graphite and smoke. I admire the linearity of this classic Margaux, quite persistent in the mouth with satisfying freshness from start to finish. I am sure this will reside at the top of my banded score once in bottle. Drink 2020-2035.
Layered and rich with plenty of ripe fruit and ripe tannins. Full body, round and chewy tannins and a citrusy finish. Excellent like the 2015.
Rather a sumptuous alluring nose. Mild and sweet on the palate without great drive, but inoffensive certainly. No great length.

The palate is rich and spicy with plenty of toasty oak but balancing blossom character to the fruit on the nose. A well balanced, silky and approachable wine this vintage.
