Tasting Notes

Typically, the quintessential feminine side of Margaux is represented by Prieure-Lichine-s 2011. Floral, raspberry, black cherry and currant notes intermixed with spice box are present in this deep ruby/purple-colored effort. The richness builds incrementally and becomes more impressive than it initially seems. A well-made, supple-textured, delicious 2011, it is an undeniable success for the vintage. Enjoy it over the next 15+ years

The Prieure Lichine is a blend of 63% Cabernet Sauvignon, 32% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot aged in 50% new oak, picked from 21st and 28th September. It has a slightly aggressive nose at first that takes time to mellow in the glass, offering up black cherries and touches of cassis. The palate is medium-bodied with dry, chalky tannins that lead to a slightly pinched finish. I believe this should harmonize and mellow during its élevage and may merit a higher score. Tasted April 2012.

This is a concentrated wine for the vintage, with spice and earth character. Full body, chewy tannins and a long finish. A little rustic now but will deliver so much pleasure. Better in 2016.

Well-expressed cassis fruit, elegance and charm, a lovely expression of Margaux in quite a forward style. Drink 2015-2022.

This sexy, delicious effort is atypically fat, fleshy and opulent for a 2011. While the acidity is present, it is lower than in many Medocs. The wine displays lots of blue, red and black fruits intertwined with a floral note that provides additional complexity. Front end-loaded with a mid-palate and finish that fill out nicely, this beautifully made wine is a true sleeper of the vintage. Drink it over the next 15+ years.

Blueberry and spices on the nose. Full to medium body, with chewy tannins and a medium finish. Lacks a tiny bit of a center palate.
