The 2020 Musigny Grand Cru is a little more succinct and mineral-driven than Mugnier's Amoureuses, which precedes it: Morello cherries mixed with raspberry, white-tipped strawberry, cranberry and Earl Grey. Entrancing. Bergamot scents begin to evolve with continued aeration. This conveys a sense of Pinot Noir instead of the growing season. The palate is medium-bodied and velvety in terms of texture, with slightly exotic red berry fruit, hints of Italian meats and white pepper. It's very harmonious towards the finish. It needs time to subsume the oak, but there is real class here. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting. (Drink between 2028-2055)
A glowing fresh purple. The bouquet shows an absolute purity of fruit, with an underlay of whole bunches. There is pepper alongside the voluminous depth of fruit, and an excellent fruit acid balance. This is gorgeously sensual on the palate, without losing discipline.
