Tasting Notes

The 2017 Malartic-Lagravière Blanc has a very impressive bouquet with flinty, citrus fruit that evolves more discrete tropical scents with aeration, hints of dried honey, lime and mango emerging with time. The palate is well balanced with a fine bead of acidity, quite saline in the mouth and fine weight. A precise and quite sustained finish. This has great potential and it may improve with continued bottle age. That said, it will be irresistible in its youth. Drink 2021-2036.

Attractive, fresh-lemon and grassy nuances with wild herbs and slightly flinty elements, too. The palate has such intense and fresh acidity. Fine lemons and limes and a thrillingly dry, long finish. Drink now, but better in three years.

The Malartic Lagraviere 2017 Blanc (a blend of 80% Sauvignon Blanc and 20% Sémillon) features ripe apples, fresh hay and shaved almonds with dried herbs, preserved lemons and kumquat in the background. Medium-bodied, it is super intense and minerally in the mouth with a crisp line and long finish. 2020 - 2031

Powerful and intense, this has clear Sauvignon character without being grassy. There's excellent depth of expression and a bright, zippy character that leads you through the palate. High, bright aromatics and great persistency.

The pear fruit is all tied up in the oak on the nose giving an embryonic complexity. Rich and deep and so fresh. Impressive concentration and balance between crisp acidity and fruit sweetness.

Julia Harding MW, JancisRobinson.com, April 2017

Grassy, bright and fresh, this is chock full of Sauvignon Blanc character. The palate is slick and slender with tangy, bright acidity washing over the citrus and passionfruit notes. The spicy, flinty notes on the finish add a nice layer of complexity and savoury edge. With full elevage which should let the palate gain some weight and texture, this should be a delicious wine on release.

The nose has citrusy freshness the start of the palate crisp gooseberry and lime. Sweet fruit shows in the middle more breadth of flavour and although light fresh citrusy at the back the finish has a hint of sweetness. 2021-32

Super-clean and super-vibrant, this is an ice-pick shaped lemon-zest explosion and it is delicious. The oak is perfectly managed and the whole experience is lip-smacking.

The 2017 Malartic-Lagravière Blanc has a clean, precise and mineral-driven bouquet with touches of smoke and flint hovering like errant school-kids in the background. The palate is very well balanced and full of energy. The acidity neatly counterbalances with saline apply fruit with great persistence on the finish, and touches of lemongrass that linger on the aftertaste. This is one of the best Pessac-Léognan whites that you will find in this vintage. 2021 - 2042

Sollid as a rock with so much zest of limes and lemons. Crush stones and limestone. Full-bodied, driven and bright.

James Suckling, JamesSuckling.com, April 2018

The tentative blend of the 2017 Blanc is 80% Sauvignon Blanc and 20% Sémillon. It opens with pretty lemon curd, white peach and fresh pineapple notes with suggestions of honeysuckle and mandarin peel. The palate is medium-bodied, fresh and zippy with wonderful purity and a long, zesty finish
