Chambertin Clos de Bèze, Domaine Faiveley 1990

Tasting Notes

Funky, earthy, slightly stewed, roasted fruit nose and while the flavors are rich and full-bodied, there is a lack of nuance and freshness. This was clearly a substandard bottle. 86/now Note: I've had this several times, most recently in November of 1999 and the wine showed extremely well, scoring

Much deeper in color than the 1985, the 1990 Chambertin Clos de Bèze has abundant dark berry fruit on the nose: black cherries, raisin, dried fig and melted asphalt on a August afternoon. The palate is nicely focused, very pure and vitamin-like. Sweet and playful and if one is to criticize, missing some precision on the finish, this somewhat rugged 1990 has plenty to offer, though it is not a first division Chambertin in the context of the vintage.
