Charmes Chambertin, Domaine Coquard Loison-Fleurot 2021

Tasting Notes

For some reason the Charmes-Chambertin escaped the frost. A fine cheerful mid purple. No bouquet to speak of for the moment. The structure of this wine is fine boned and really quite elegant with a lighter touch to the fruit. A less voluptuous Charmes than sometimes, but attractive. Drink from 2027-2033. Tasted: November 2022

Here too the wood is nicely subtle if more apparent with the earthier and sauvage-inflected red berry fruit aromas than is the case with the Clos de Vougeot. The sleek, intense and beautifully detailed flavors possess a relatively sophisticated mouthfeel thanks to the fine-grained tannins that shape the precise, powerful and lingering finale. Note: from a .35 ha holding near the bottom of Mazoyères
