Latricières Chambertin, Domaine Rossignol-Trapet 2018

Tasting Notes

The 2018 Latricières-Chambertin Grand Cru has a pastille-like bouquet, very pure and much more floral than its peers, cohering nicely in the glass. The fruit becomes ever darker with emerging tertiary/truffle aromas. Quite heady and opulent, though clouded by Brettanomyces. This has very fine delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with a citrus-fresh entry, notes of orange rind and marmalade percolating through the layers of dark berry fruit. It just needs a little more complexity on the finish. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2018 red tasting.

A solid purple colour. There is robust fruit on the nose along with some reduction, and perhaps a little white pepper. The bouquet is growing! The stems are really quite pronounced behind in this ultra white pepper style, then come the alpine strawberries, riper than usual, with fresh raspberries too. Very, very persistent, but there just might be a hint of something bacterial, which has reduced the rating. If it clears, add two more points. Drink from 2032.
