The Les Hauts de Smith 2015 Rouge has an assured bouquet, harmonious and well defined with blackberry, bilberry plus a light marine scent developing with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grain tannin, clean and quite precise, firming up toward a more linear, graphite-tinged finish that displays commendable precision. The terroir is expressed well here and it should age well over the next decade.
Very aromatic and fresh on the nose with walnuts, hazelnuts and dried flowers as well as currants and blackberries. Full-bodied, dense and chewy. Impressively structured. Better in 2020.
The 2015 Les Hauts de Smith is a blend of 55% Merlot and 45% Cabernet Sauvignon, picked up around October 8. It has a fragrant bouquet with touches of crushed violet petals littered over the blackberry fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannin. Grippy in the mouth, cedar and graphite lending it an almost Pauillac-like flavor profile, this is a "serious" Pessac-Léognan that deserves 3-4 years in bottle. Drink 2018-2028.
