A dense plum/purple color is followed by a supple, evolved, medium-bodied wine revealing an elegant bouquet of red and black currants, charcoal, toast and earth. Enjoy this impressive 2008 over the next 12-15 years.
The 2008 d’Armailhac has a pretty, floral bouquet with red cherries and crushed strawberry fruit laced with rose petals. The palate is sweet on the entry, one of the relatively corpulent 2008 Bordeaux Left Bank wines, one that is finely balanced with a touch of cedar and spice decorating the understated, easy-going finish. Blackberry and hints of cedar and dried flowers on the nose lead to a medium body, with fine tannins, fresh acidity and a medium finish. Attractive and friendly
Very deep purple. Still undeveloped but very ripe nose. Some lift already. Quite marked acidity with a lusciousness on the front palate and extremely - almost dangerously? - soft tannins. Has this been very worked? Quite flattering. Sweet and chocolatey on the nose then a bit dead. Solid but not exciting. Rather green and very chewy on the finish.
The nose has power the richness of black fruits lots of cassis and black cherry. The mid palate is
rich yet fresh and although the tannins give structure they feel ripe so not over dominating and
leaving the finish quite full and sweet fruited. 2014-2025.
Although unevolved, the fresh, medium-bodied 2008 d'Armailhac is a more elegant, delicate take on this vintage than some of the more concentrated wines from the Medoc and the right bank. Fresh cranberry, sweet cherry, and spicy notes are present in this wine. While it does not appear to be one of the stars of the vintage, it possesses brilliant delineation as well as an exceptionally pretty style somewhat reminiscent of the 1996 vintage. The blend is 54% Cabernet Sauvignon, 29% Merlot, and the rest Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. This wine may put on weight and flesh out given its late malolactic fermentation and retarded harvest.
This has a deep broody nose with dark fruits, briary, a touch of dark chocolate. Very pure but introverted. Lots of cedar fruit coming through, a touch of autumn leaves. The palate is medium-bodied, fine tannins, ripe black fruits, cedar, touches of dark cherry and boysenberry. Vibrant and fresh towards the finish. Moderate length. This is a great effort - lip-smackingly tasty!
