Tasting Notes

The complexity and flintiness are so enticing, with sliced apples, lemons, minerals and gunpowder. Full-bodied, dense and intense, with subtle brioche, cooked lemon and apple notes. Racy and steely but with richness underneath. Some lemongrass. So complex. Drink or hold. Screw cap.

I always love this wine and despite the vintage tribulations, the Coddington retains its signature vineyard character, one of generousness and exuberance. Ripe and rich, within the context of the vintage, more open than the tightly wound Hunting Hill. There is a little ripe stonefruit, some biscuit and cream. Drink from 2025 - 2030. Tasted: 5/5/2024.

Coddington's natural ripeness is perfectly suited to this vintage, with notes of peach and apricot on the nose generous yet tamed this year by layers of lime and lemon. There is smokiness too, a sweet fragrance that adds complexity and intrigue to both nose and palate. The texture is silky as is to be expected, but there is too tangy, refreshing acidity that adds notes of mandarin and crystalised citrus. This is a Coddington with bite and freshness, yet it still finishes on ripe orchard fruits and subtle, sweet vanilla. Drink now or over the coming 10+ years.
