(opened from personal storage). A fully mature and strikingly spicy nose blends both red and dark secondary fruit aromas with those of earth and a whiff of the sauvage. There is good richness and a lovely sense of verve to the sophisticated and attractively textured medium-bodied flavors that exhibit focused power and excellent complexity on the balanced and sneaky long finish. This has arrived at its peak though it is showing no signs of tiring so another decade should be in the cards for this beauty. Tasted several times over the years with consistent impressions. (Drink starting 2023)
Quite dense and rich though without quite the same serious structure as the Bonne Mares, which is more tannic still. Beautiful black fruit aromatics with rich, relatively forward flavors that are not especially dense but offer an amazing range of earth nuances. While this is hardly shy, it is nevertheless not a powerful wine but rather one built along the lines of a classy middleweight.
