Tasting Notes

A full fleshy purple in colour. New oak shows on the nose, but not to distract the fruit. Discretion with intensity. Taking time for the detail to emerge. Brilliant pure intensity, liquid red fruit notes over quite a range. Very fine long finish. Really a sublime bouquet. Fully ripe fruit. I forgive the oakier for a wine with this length of future. Drink from 2035.

I continue to just love these 2018 Red Burgundies, and the 2018 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos Saint-Jacques doesn't disappoint, offering an incredibly pure, focused, yet concentrated style carrying ample bright berry fruits, spring flowers, spice, and graphite-like aromas and flavors. Medium to full-bodied on the palate, it has a terrific spine of acidity, ripe, yet ultra-fine tannins, and just about flawless balance. It shows the ripe style of the vintage yet is pure, fresh, and focused. Enjoy bottles any time over the coming 20 years or more. (Drink between 2021-2041)

More discreet but hardly invisible wood sets off the equally pure and very pretty nose that consists of liqueur-like red berry fruit, pungent earth, floral and sauvage wisps. The sleek, beautifully delineated and punchy medium-bodied flavors reveal ample minerality on the focused if youthfully austere finish that is shaped by relatively fine-grained tannins. This is a CSJ of focused power and what should prove to be a long potential aging curve.

The 2018 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos Saint-Jacques (Domaine Louis Jadot) is a beautiful wine in the making, revealing an incipiently complex bouquet that mingles aromas of smoky berry fruit, cassis and orange rind with nuances of peony, espresso roast, rich soil tones and black truffle. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, deep and multidimensional, with excellent concentration, fine structuring tannins that are largely concealed by the wine's wealth of fruit and a long, perfumed finish.

Beautifully perfumed nose with roses, strawberries and a creamy lick of vanilla. Beautiful mouthfeel, very elegant and quite tightly wound but complex and intense at the same time. Amazingly well balanced. Excellent.
