There is grand cru breed and elegance to burn in a medium bodied, finely detailed package with good richness and compelling complexity to the concentrated and very long flavors. Another outstanding Rousseau Clos St. Jacques that should improve for years to come.
How good is this? Well, it embarrassed the glass of La Tache 1990 before it! The nose reminds me of the Chambertin 1996 from Rousseau, dark black cherry fruit, blackberry leaf, a touch of tar and sous-bois coming through. The palate has a firm structure, less fleshy than the 1995, more masculine with great length and grip. Superb fruit concentration with more blackberry, cassis flavours towards the finish. This has so much vibrancy and charm, with the depth to suggest a long future. Drink now-2020+. Tasted May 2008.
