Consistently one of the top, under-the-radar wines of Pessac-Leognan, Haut-Bergey's beautiful 2006 boasts a deep ruby/purple hue as well as a classic bouquet of hot rocks intermixed with graphite, cassis, incense, and charcoal. Medium to full-bodied with noticeable but sweet tannin, impressive purity, and an alluring texture, it is relatively evolved for a 2006, so consumption over the next 15 years is recommended.
Tasted at Clos l'Eglise. A ripe, very fruit-driven nose with black cherries, a touch of liquorish and cassis. Rounded and opulent. The palate is full-bodied and yet quite feminine and silky smooth. Very pure, cohesive, quite straight-forward with well integrated oak and a nice touch of pain grille on the finish. Perhaps it lacks a little breeding, but still a very well crafted wine. Tasted April 2007.
Very dark purplish crimson. Hint of overripeness on the nose. Then sweetness on the palate and a lot of oak influence. Quite punishing tannins. This is more modern red wine than Graves. Very severe inky tannins - drying, rasping finish. What a shame. It gives the impression of having potentially very fine raw ingredients that have been spoilt by a series of the wrong decisions.
Bright, deep ruby-red. Wild, musky aromas of plum, dark cherry, truffle and game, lifted by menthol and licorice. Supple and sweet, offering pure, nicely delineated red fruit flavors and considerable early appeal. A lively, firm midweight, finishing with solid, dusty tannins and very good lift and length. Tasted next to the Branon, also from the Garcin family and consulting winemaker Alain Raynaud, this was less exotic and lush but perhaps more classic and vibrant.
A beautiful dark ruby/purple hue is followed by aromas of smoked herbs, earth, graphite, black currants, and cherries. Flavorful and savory with excellent to outstanding concentration, sweet, moderate tannin, and good power as well as purity, it should be consumed over the next 12-15 years.
Good deep red-ruby color. Explosive, rather wild aromas of plum, redcurrant, smoked meat, tobacco, leather and truffle. Then equally expressive on the palate, with excellent energy to the lush, sweet flavors of red berries, spices, meat and mocha. Finishes quite suave, with substantial dusty tannins, lovely building length and late hints of game and tobacco. Very sexy wine.
