This leading Barsac property is one of the oldest in the region and has been producing wine since 1643. It is owned by the Baly family with technical and commercial input from Baron Philippe de Rothschild (Mouton). The 38.5 hectare vineyard is planted 75% Sémillon, 23% Sauvignon Blanc and 2% Muscadelle. Barrel ageing extends for 18 months in 100% new oak.
The 2025 is 97% Sémillon with a tiny touch of Sauvignon Blanc and Muscadelle. 13.5% ABV. 25% new oak. Picked 17th September to 14th October.
The 2025 Coutet is a little more backward on the nose than usual, less giving. But there is wonderful purity of fruit, lemon thyme and clementine scents, touches of white flower. The palate is medium-bodied with a viscous entry, playing with Coutet's trademark thread of acidity that emanates from the limestone soils. Quite minerally and spicy on the aftertaste, this is a marvellous Barsac from the Baly family. Drinking Window
2031 - 2060
Bright gold colour. The nose is full of candied orange peel, saffron and ginger syrup, intense and enticing. The palate follows in the same pattern, with honeyed peaches and botrytic, waxy tones of ginger, saffron and marmalade. Powerful, layered and vibrant, this is an excellent Coutet.
This is round and concentrated, with incisive acidity providing balance. Full-bodied and attractive in its power, with just enough freshness to hold it together.
The 2025 Coutet is redolent of burnt sugar, crème brûlée, spice, passion fruit and candied ginger. Always quite rich texturally, Coutet blossoms beautifully on the palate with plenty of textural presence and body. It's a gorgeous wine by any measure. Tasted two times. 2030-2045.
