Tasting Notes

Still very youthful and a bit closed, but the special smokiness and flintiness of this great vineyard is already very clear. Diamond-bright and laser-beam straight, this is almost too racy and energetic, but it’s so polished that this is absolutely no problem. Noble austerity at the very long finish. From organically grown grapes with Fair'n Green certification. Drinkable now, but best from 2023.

From a 40-ar-plot with old vines in the top part of the porphyry cru, the 2021 Kupfergrube GG offers a very clear, precise and aromatic but also flinty bouquet with yellow-fleshed stone fruit aromas intertwined with notes of crushed stones. On the palate, this is a round and juicy yet also very elegant and delicate Riesling with great finesse and elegance but also a hedonistic character paired with stimulating salinity and crunchy structural elements. A gorgeous wine. Tasted as a sample at the domaine in July 2022.

(Schäfer-Fröhlich Schlossböckelheimer Kupfergrube Riesling Trocken GG) AP: 19 22. The 2021er Kupfergrube Riesling GG, as it is referred to on the consumer label, has a quite smoky and herbal nose which proves still very primary at this early stage. Only with airing does it show more complexity as notes of anise, wet stone, licorice, blackberry, and potpourri come through. The wine proves a charmer on the smoother and cream-driven palate. The finish has more energy as lime, minty herbs, and earthy spices join the party. The aftertaste is fully dry and herbal, with just a hint of tartness in need of integration. 2026-2036
