Tasting through several parcels/barrels, the 2020 Cote Rotie Terrasses looks to be a solid effort, marked by slightly vegetal notes up front and almost sherbet-like red fruit flavors. Medium to full-bodied, with decent texture and length, it should be approachable young, with the ability to age at least a decade.
The 2020 is another success for Jean-Luc Jamet. Brilliant ruby-purple in the glass, the nose has a hit of mineral reduction as most great young Syrahs do in their youth. Beneath this cloak, there are layers of brambly dark fruit, juicy yet fresh with a stony depth. The palate is powerful, grippy and intense. Waves of black fruit are matched by woody hedgerow tones from a little wholebunch. Lithe, with bright acids bringing refreshing red fruit to the mix, this is a layered, characterful yet succulent wine, bringing vintage and the now established house style together. The effortless ripeness of the vintage has been gently handled but not hidden, making for a long, finely balanced wine with ample freshness. Give it five years before opening, and drink over the following 15.
quite a full red; crushed berries, raspberry, herbs feature in rather wide bouquet that will emerge well. The palate has an easy, open attack, comes with soft gras richness, the tannins mild. It’s low-key for now, continues on fine juice, has been tenderly handled. From 2025. 2042-44 Nov 2022
