Gevrey Chambertin Clos Saint Jacques, Domaine Fourrier 2020

Tasting Notes

The darkest purple in this flight with an immediate whole bunch opulence. Wears its heart on its sleeve but with quite a joyous quality of fruit. The acidity freshens up the finish and the mix of raspberry and morello cherry returns with vigour at the back. A certain amount of winemaking currently in advance of the vineyard, but a wine to savour and enjoy. Drink from 2027-2036. Tasted: September 2024.

The 2020 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos Saint-Jacques wafts from the glass with aromas of cherries, sweet red berries, rose petals, orange rind, peonies and spices. Medium to full-bodied, seamless and complete, it's velvety and perfumed, with lively acids, beautifully refined tannins and a long, expansive finish.

Concentrated crimson purple. Perfect nose, such weight and intensity. Hard to find the words beyond saying that it is pretty much a perfect rendition. So much energy of fruit at the front end, that extra bit of lift and life from the stems, exceptional persistence, and a ripeness of fruit which seems perfectly judged. Tasted: December 2021
