A blend of 58% Cabernet Sauvignon, 33% Merlot and 9% Cabernet Franc, the Deuxieme Vin of Lynch Bages has blackberry, wild hedgerow and a touch of tobacco on the nose. Good definition. The palate is medium-bodied with a ripe, succulent entry, powdery tannins with a fine blackberry, raspberry and cassis-tinged finish. Moderate length. Fine. Tasted March 2011.
This is the new name for the second wine of Chateau Lynch Bages with a brand new modern label. It was formerly known as Haut Bages Averous. 58% Cabernet Sauvignon, 33% Merlot, 9% Cabernet Franc. Elevage in 1 year old barrels. This wine is made from 26% of the production of the Lynch Bages vineyard. The deep colour and impressive conerntration. There is good cassis character & some firm tannic structure suggests that this is not a second wine for immediate drinking. Jean-Charles Cazes says that this reminds him of the Haut Bages Averous 1982 & 1990. It is certainly an exceptional second wine.
The black fruit mix on the nose feels ripe the sweetness though balanced by bilberry and bramble freshness. The layers of flavour give some complexity with the ripeness of the fruit giving flesh on the back palate.
