Tasting Notes

The 2023 Tour Saint Christophe has a perfumed, floral bouquet that shows fine delineation compared to some of its peers. The palate is medium-bodied, displaying crunchy red fruit mixed with white pepper and cedar. Quite linear toward the finish, this is a finely-tuned Saint-Émilion that should age well in bottle.

The nose here is marked by reduction, very stony with notes of flint, iron and bloody red fruits. The palate has firm, sandy tannins but they are matched by raw, impressively ripe fruit on the palate. Oak is not a prominent feature on the flavour profile of this wine, it is distinctly mineral and nervy, yet plush in fruit. I look forward to seeing how this shows in bottle, it should turn out very well.

The quality of fruit and salty undertones from the limestone soil are really delicious and exciting. Medium to full body and very fine, velvety tannins that spread across the palate. Bright and crunchy at the end. 80% merlot and 20% cabernet franc.

James Suckling, JamesSuckling.com, April 2024

Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2023 Tour Saint Christophe reveals a very pretty perfume of violets, black cherries, and mulberries followed by nuances of Sichuan pepper and cumin seed. The medium to full-bodied palate has vibrant black berry flavors with a velvety texture and great tension, finishing with a spicy kick.

This group of Vignobles K wines under JC Meyrou have been steadily building in quality and consistency over the past decade. Well measured but full extraction, with a vibrant but inky plum colour, clear energy, some tight tannins and a high level of black pepper and clove spice. Cassis and black chocolate, good freshness underneath, with rose bud character. 25% new barrels. 46hl/ha yield.

The 2023 Tour Saint Christophe is a super-sized, explosive Saint-Émilion. Fasten your seatbelt. It offers a rush of dense, inky fruit, chocolate, cloves, new leather and licorice. This huge, flamboyant Saint-Émilion packs quite a punch. Tasted three times, during which some samples have shown a slightly vegetal quality. 2026-2038

80% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc. 46 hl/ha. Cask sample.
Reticent nose but shows a depth of fruit. Layered and textured on the palate, the fruit generous and just enough freshness. Tannins tightly woven leaving a dry, firm finish. Needs to settle but potential. (JL) 14.8%
