This 1.68 hectare vineyard is owned by the family of the late Catherine Péré-Vergé (of Château Le Gay) although 0.3 hectares are not currently in production. Only a few hundred cases of luxurious Pomerol are made here annually. The property is situated in between Le Pin and Trotanoy, and planted with 100% Merlot from 40 year old vines. The fruit is de-stemmed by hand by 50 people with micro-vinification and elevage in 100% new oak.
In 2023 the grapes were picked from September 11th to 20th. The bunches were 100% destemmed by hand, berry by berry and after micro-vinification in 100% new oak, this 100% Merlot cuvee will make about 400 dozen bottles.
The 2023 La Violette has a lovely nose, quite refined compared to past vintages, with layers of black plum, truffle and violet. The oak is neatly enmeshed. The palate is medium-bodied with a lactic entry, dark chocolate interwoven into the layered red fruit with a smooth, spicy finish. It just misses the complexity that I know this estate can produce. This is maybe an atypically conservative La Violette?
Bright purple in colour, this has a bombastic, ripe nose of caramelised fruit, milk chocolate and turkish coffee. All gloss on the palate, this is a seamless, oily wine designed for pure pleasure. Parma violets, cherry coulis and fudge. For hedonists only.
Full-bodied with a rich and chunky mid-palate, packed with fruit and chewy tannins. It’s very well framed and muscular, but not heavy. This should develop well with more time in barrel.
Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2023 La Violette slowly emerges from the glass with fragrant scents of dried roses, cinnamon stick, and cedar chest giving way to a core of black raspberries, juicy blackberries, and fresh plums with a waft of Sichuan pepper. The medium to full-bodied palate is densely laden with fragrant black fruit layers supported by velvety tannins, finishing with a perfumed lift. This is 100% Merlot with a yield of 30hl/ha.
This is intense, rich character, grilled coffee, blueberry, a little heavy through the mid palate although has good depths and texture, Pomerol typicity, very much also on the estate signature. Close to the church plots in Pomerol, Vignobles Parent.
