Les Crays was selected for Premier Cru status and as this vineyard faces South and the summer was hot, Verget picked the grapes here before the other vineyards. This meant that the ripe juice would still have good balancing acidity despite the impressive viscosity. The 2022 is a big, bold wine, showing peach, tangerine and a hint of pineapple on the nose. The palate is rich, with a solar edge to the fruit and oily, full-bodied richness. This is impressive, dense and powerful, a wine for those who like rich textures and ripe fruit. It remains in balance, the acid rises through the mid palate to lift some of the riper fruit tones. Showing well already and improving between our barrel and bottle tastings, this is long and lightly nutty on the finish. A real crowdpleaser.
Generous but vibrant, the 2022 Pouilly-Fuissé Les Crays exhibits demonstrative aromas of pear, buttery pastry, crisp stone fruit and nutmeg, followed by a medium to full-bodied, fleshy and textural palate animated by bright structuring acids.
