The opaque purple-colored 1997 ratchets up the level of hedonism to considerable heights. It is an impressively endowed wine with layers of jammy black currant, cranberry, and cassis fruit, well-integrated toasty pain grillé scents, and an unctuous texture that conceals moderate levels of sweet tannin. This is a well delineated, full-bodied, powerful, classic claret. Anticipated maturity: 2002-2018.
