Tasting Notes

Moderate wood combines with cool aromas spice, violet, lilac, red currant and just enough sauvage character to be interesting. The exceptionally rich and generously proportioned flavors coat the palate with sappy dry extract on the solidly powerful yet suave bitter pit fruit-inflected finish. This is an atypical 2021 as it is more like a 2020 on the palate though without the higher ripeness levels. Excellent development potential here.

Allen Meadows, Burghound.com (90), April 2013

There are only seven barrels of the 2021 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos Saint-Jacques (Domaine Louis Jadot), an attractively sensual wine evocative of cherries, plums, orange zest, smoke and spices. Medium to full-bodied, layered and concentrated, with a sweet core of fruit, powdery tannins and a penetrating finish, its quality is some compensation for the lack of quantity.

William Kelley, RobertParker.com, January 2023

A glowing crimson colour. There is an impressive volume of fruit on the nose. Medium weight, lively raspberry and strawberry with a certain sweetness of fruit indicating a decent ripeness level. This does fill the mouth very juicily, the vintage enlivening the finish. Drink from 2027-2035. Tasted: October 2022

Jasper Morris MW, Inside Burgundy, December 2022

Bright ruby colour. Showcasing the best the vintage has to offer, the nose here is layered and complete, offering high-toned red fruit and flowers, together with wood spice, black pepper and dried herbs. The palate is equally bright with blood orange, strawberry and red cherry, lined with an acidity and grip that drives the top-note intensity of this wine. Fragrant and grippy, this is for the long haul, combining focus and flair. Long.
