A mildly toasty nose of red and black raspberry, wet stone and a touch of forest floor slides gracefully into rich, powerful and impressively well-concentrated middle weight plus flavors that evidence an intense minerality on the explosively long, firm, tension-filled and exceptionally serious finish. This is a relatively big wine even by the typical standards of Clos des Chênes which is well-known for creating the biggest wines in Volnay. This is most impressive but not just for its striking size and weight but also for its grace and impeccable balance.
