Tasting Notes

The 2018 Tokaji Szt. Tamás 6-Puttonyos is a little reticent on the nose, but it only takes a few swirls to entice lilting scents of apricot, quince and subtle adhesive scents. Fine delineation. The palate is smooth and harmonious. Wow. This just glides across the senses, with a gorgeous viscous texture, hints of fig, apricot and yellow plums with a dash of stem ginger towards the finish. This is another outstanding release from the Royal Tokaji Co. in 2018. (199.2g/l residual sugar and 6.46g/l acidity) 2025-2050

A first growth that sits on southwest slopes above Royal Tokaji's winery in Mád. The soils are a distinctive red clay with blueish volcanic rocks on the suface and the wine is often our favourite here at Farr: dense and taut, it has a mineral, lip-smacking intensity and bold structure. The nose here is complex, unique and very enticing, holding notes of yuzu, wasabi, honeysuckle and fresh apricots. The palate is built around acidity, the sweetness with that extra level of finesse and balance. Tightly coiled with unfurling notes of apricots, quince paste and ginger syrup, this has real depth with an unerring spiciness that lingers on the finish. Stony and smoky to the end, this deserves a little time in bottle but it is already hard to spit.

Very complex nose of tropical fruit, wafers and dried flowers. Very minerally, with crushed stones and some herbal undertones. Medium- to full-bodied, structured and long, with an attractive, astringent texture. It’s almost velvety on the palate, showing savory and mineral notes in the finish. Fresh, focused and very gastronomic. Delicate finish. Drink or hold.

The renowned site features red clay topsoils and volcanic rocks. Citrus blossom, marmalade, and apricot on the nose. Bright acidity shines through, highlighting great purity and a creamy concentration of apricot tart, sweet vanilla, and nutmeg spices. Layered depth of dried pineapple and peppermint tea. Umami and bitter citrus zest on the finish. Drink: 2024-2034.
