A small quantity (under 1,000 cases) of white wine is made at Lynch Bages. The mix in the vineyard here is 50% Sauvignon Blanc, 33% Sémillon and 17% Muscadelle.
The 2022 is 67% Sauvignon Blanc, 22% Semillon and 11% Muscadelle. Very small production.
Bright and lively on the nose with a hint of grapefruit, mandarin and musky grapes, there is a touch of spice but it is subtle. The palate starts broad and silky but has a hit of tangy acids through the middle. Vibrant with tagerine and fleshy with orchard fruit, this is an approachable Lynch Bages Blanc that will drink well in youth.
The 2022 Blanc de Lynch-Bages, tasted two weeks after bottling, is a blend of 67% Sauvignon Blanc, 22% Semillon, and 11% Muscadelle. It jumps from the glass with vibrant grapefruit, lemon curd, and white peach scents with hints of honeysuckle, lime blossom, and chalk dust. The medium-bodied palate vibrates with citrus energy, with a racy backbone and chalky finish. pH 3.2.
Vivid white flower aromatics, here the stone fruits are clearly ripe and edging towards exotic mango and pomegranate, with subtle gunsmoke edging and slate texture. The team passed through the vineyard in successive times to ensure bunches came in as soon as they were ripe, and ensured reductive winemaking in individually temperature-controlled barrels to keep emphasis on fruit and aromatics. Harvest August 25 to 31, earliest ever. 3.2ph, 65% new oak. It's gourmet, with the texture and flesh that is a signature of the vintage, but never less than enjoyable.
