Gevrey Chambertin Estournelles St Jacques, Domaine Duroché 2012

Tasting Notes

The 2013 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Estournelles Saint-Jacques was popped open by Pierre Duroché after I had tasted through his 2015s. You could argue that they were a difficult act to follow, nevertheless it confirmed my previous encounters that this is a superb Gevrey-Chambertin. Here it has an attractive bouquet with dark berry fruit, early grey and shucked oyster shell aromas, the latter not as conspicuous as it was a few months ago. The palate is medium-bodied with red berry fruit on the entry mixed with orange rind and a splash of soy. It has become spicier and feels fleshy and caressing on the sweet finish, still with a hint of dried fig. Just wonderful. Tasted September 2016.
