This Saint Emilion property of seven hectares is well situated on the plateau of Saint Emilion. Previously the wines were made by Nicolas Thienpont from Pavie Macquin and Beausejour Duffau. However in July 2017 the property was purchased by the owners of Chanel and it is now under the control of Nicolas Audebert of Château Canon. Consequently there is a significant change in the style of the wine into something much more sophisticated and smooth than before. The vineyard is planted with 75% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Franc. There are some new plantings of Malbec.
The 2025 is 61% Merlot, 39% Cabernet Franc. It will be aged in 38% new oak, some second year oak and 22% in amphoras. The yield was a healthy 42 hl/ha. Alcohol 14%. Harvest 3rd to 17th September.
A blend of 61% Merlot and 39% Cabernet Franc, the 2025 Berliquet is the best wine to emerge from this ascendent property yet. Bursting with aromas of sweet dark berries, licorice and violets, it's medium- to full-bodied, rich and suave, with beautifully refined tannins, lively acids and a seamless, complete profile. The estate's new winery, inaugurated with the 2023 vintage, permits harvesting block by block with greater precision. Readers who haven't been following Berliquet's progress should make a special effort to seek out the superb 2025.
The 2025 Berliquet was picked September 3 to 17 and is aged in 38% new barrels and 23% amphora, which are being increased slightly each year. This has a very refined bouquet, lifted and quite floral, black cherry and blueberry, a little creaminess, in fact, quite Canon-like in style. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp acidity on the entry. The limestone really comes through and underlies this Berliquet, almost like a white wine, as if someone crumbled it into the wine. That's terroir for you. It lends plenty of freshness and another layer of complexity on the finish. This is one of the best vintages of Berliquet that I have tasted from barrel. Drinking Window
2032 - 2055
Perhaps underrated due to its sheer drinkability at this nascent stage, the nose here is all perfume - strawberries and cherry blossom with a little fresh vanilla. The palate is soft, seamless and juicy, reflecting the nose with no hard edges. A wine that exemplifies the energy and perfume of the vintage, it feels as though this will drink well from an early stage.
Well composed, textured and precise, with aromas of dark berries and stones. Medium-bodied with fine tannins. Driven and layered with a long, vivid finish.
The 2025 Berliquet is precise, elegant and nuanced—adjectives I have not used often here, but that sum up the level of the 2025. Floral overtones, red berry fruit, mint and spice are beautifully delineated in the glass. The 2025 opens beautifully with a bit of time, showing notable breadth and layers. This is the finest Berliquet since Chanel's acquisition in 2017. Tasted two times. 2030-2045
