An exuberantly spicy and agreeably fresh nose of various dark berries and violet scents is trimmed in slightly less evident wood. There is excellent density and richness to the overtly powerful flavors that manage to retain a certain refinement before culminating in a palate coating, youthfully austere and very firm finale. Patience absolutely required as this is a robust but not inelegant Chapelle. (Drink starting 2034)
A markedly ripe but fresher nose speaks of liqueur-like red and dark raspberry scents along with floral, spice and earth nuances. There is a lovely sense of underlying tension to the finer and more detailed flavors that conclude in a tangy if lengthy and built-to-age finish. I suspect that the tanginess will dissipate with time in bottle and my predicted range implicitly assumes that it will. (Drink starting 2040)
