Matured in 25% new oak with no whole cluster, the 2018 Corton Le Rognet Grand Cru has a well-defined bouquet of black currant and raspberry aromas, hints of pressed iris petals and undergrowth developing with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins. There is plenty of energy here, and veins of blood orange are threaded through the tensile finish. Excellent.
This is aromatically similar to the Renardes but even earthier and this emphasis on earth elements are also reflected on the denser but less energetic flavors that possess a rounded and velvety texture, all wrapped in a firmly structured finale. This will need to develop more depth to attain the upper end of my projected range. Drink: 2030+
