This 1.68 hectare vineyard is owned by the family of the late Catherine Péré-Vergé (of Château Le Gay) although 0.3 hectares are not currently in production. Only a few hundred cases of luxurious Pomerol are made here annually. The property is situated in between Le Pin and Trotanoy, and planted with 100% Merlot from 40 year old vines. The fruit is de-stemmed by hand by 50 people with micro-vinification and elevage in 100% new oak.
In 2022 the grapes were picked on September 5th and 6th. The bunches were 100% destemmed by hand, berry by berry and after micro-vinification im 100% new oak, this 100% Merlot cuvee will make about 4000 bottles.
The 2022 La Violette delivers notes of cherries, sweet berries, petals and toasty new oak, followed by a medium to full-bodied, velvety and rich palate framed by generously extracted tannins. While it's far from a blushing violet, it's comparatively restrained by this estate's standards and represents a well-made wine in its style.
Deep purple in colour with a very sweet nose of parma violets, damson jam and cherry coulis. There is, too, a strong accent of sweet, creamy vanilla that is the result of fermentation in new oak barrels. The palate is seamless, completely round and polished with ultra-fine, refined tannins again a result of the winemaking here. Creamy and soft, with polished baking spices at the core. Sweet, toasty and smoky to the finish, this is a unique, round, full bodied wine that will be highly seductive from the outset.
Firm and layered with very fine tannins and impressive blackberry, dark chocolate and spice character, yet it is very reserved and beautiful. Medium to full body. Refined tannins and a savory finish. A sleek and linear beauty. Terrific potential here.
Compelling depth of fruit, with appealing greengage plum and damson on display, this conveys the heat of the vintage, but sets it against velvety tannins that have enough texture in them to slow things down and draw the flavours out through the palate. Mint leaf and eucalyptus bring cooling relief on the finish, and this is mouthwatering and exuberant at the same time. A great wine in the vintage, keeping the seduction of Pomerol alive and well, from a 2ha site.
